Online Workshop: Working with Multilingual Learners
Access to this workshop is included with registration.
Professionals in the field of nature-based early learning are increasingly aware of the need to more intentionally and creatively engage multiple-language learners in our work. However, many feel unqualified or unsure about how to do so. In this 2-hour workshop led by associates of Project Learning tree, participants will learn strategies and hands-on activities to engage multilingual learners in the natural world through inclusive, interdisciplinary investigations and play. Shared techniques apply elements of differentiated instruction that support holistically-sound teaching and learning. You’ll receive lesson plans with connections to accredited early childhood benchmarks such as NAEYC, Head Start, and Natural Start’s Nature-Based Preschool Professional Practice Guidebook.
From this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain eight differentiated instruction strategies for use with multilingual learners
- Articulate at least 3 elements of natural inclusivity relevant to multilingual learners
- Facilitate 3 hands-on activities that support nature-based instruction
- Demonstrate how activities support early childhood benchmarks, such as NAEYC, Head Start, and Nature-Based Professional Practice
- Summarize a localized case study that documents measurable success with the target audience
- Apply other tools and resources that support multilingual teaching and learning available through Project Learning Tree (www.plt.org)
